Pearls are beautiful but delicate; without proper care, they will gradually lose their luster. Today, let’s discuss the art of cleaning and maintaining pearl jewelry.
Stay away from the kitchen
Pearly surfaces have tiny pores, making them prone to absorbing impurities from the air. Pearls can absorb substances such as hairspray and perfume. Therefore, avoid wearing fine pearls while using electric hair dryers or in the kitchen. Do not wear beautiful pearls while cooking, as steam and cooking fumes can seep into the pearls, causing discoloration.
②、Serving on Sheepskin
After wearing pearls (especially on hot days), clean them thoroughly before storing. It is best to use chamois leather instead of tissue paper, as some tissues can cause abrasion to the pearls.
③. Do not approach the clear water
Do not clean the pearl necklace with water. Water can seep into the small holes of the pearls, making it difficult to dry and potentially causing fermentation inside, which may also turn the string green. If the necklace becomes sweaty while wearing it, gently wipe it with a soft, damp cloth and let it air dry before storing.
④、Require air
Do not store pearls in a safe for extended periods or seal them in plastic bags. Pearls need fresh air, so take them out to wear every few months to allow them to breathe. Prolonged storage in a box can cause pearls to turn yellow (hence the saying “pearls lose their luster with age”)
⑤. Pearl Necklace Care
Do not hang the beaded necklace for extended periods, as the string may deform over time. Knotting the string between each bead on a long necklace is a great idea. This method prevents friction between the beads. Even if the string breaks, it ensures the beads won’t scatter, so you’ll only lose at most one bead.
⑥、3-year wire replacement
Pearls should be restrung every 3 years at most, depending on how often they are worn. Dirt entering the small holes of the pearls creates friction, which can cause the nylon thread to break near the clasp where the force is concentrated.
There are many other methods for maintaining pearls, which we won’t elaborate on here. However, we still want to remind everyone that pearls are not only afraid of being闷 but also of being exposed to direct sunlight.
