How to distinguish between titanium steel and titanium

How to distinguish between titanium steel and titanium

Titanium (Ti) – Silver gray metal, specific gravity 4.5, melting point 1668 ° C. Titanium is a very special metal with a very light texture, but very tough and corrosion-resistant. It won’t turn black like silver and will maintain its color tone at room temperature. Titanium has a similar melting point and is therefore commonly used in precision components such as aerospace and military industries. Adding electric current and chemical treatment will produce different colors.

Due to the above characteristics of titanium, its unique silver gray color tone performs well in high polishing, silk gloss, and matte. It is the most suitable jewelry metal besides precious metals platinum and gold, commonly used in modern jewelry design abroad, and is a popular jewelry material in the world. As for the style design, minimalist and clean cutting, high design, and low-key avant-garde style are highly praised by young white-collar workers. However, due to the high processing requirements of titanium, it is difficult to cast and shape with ordinary equipment, difficult to weld with ordinary tools, and difficult to form a production scale. So it’s difficult to see in the domestic jewelry market.

There are many titanium steel jewelry products in China, which are made of stainless steel instead of titanium. To attract people, it is called titanium steel, and some even titanium alloy jewelry, which is actually stainless steel jewelry without titanium.

Among these materials, stainless steel jewelry is most commonly made of 316L stainless steel, also known as 316L international standard titanium by some manufacturers

In fact, 316L is a stainless steel code obtained by continuously reducing the carbon content on the basis of 316 stainless steel. It is more expensive than ordinary stainless steel, has strong corrosion resistance, and is suitable for skin contact jewelry. The main components are Fe, Cr, Ni, and Mo. There is no titanium content. But it can indeed maintain almost no deformation or discoloration for a long time. Among the common stainless steels, 316L steel called titanium steel is the most suitable for making jewelry.

I don’t know how to distinguish between titanium and titanium steel. Jewelry contract factories teach you three small methods:

Color: Titanium necklaces are generally silver gray, while titanium steel necklaces are bright white;

Weight: Titanium has a small specific gravity, about half that of titanium steel, so titanium necklaces are lighter;

Price: The price of titanium necklaces is usually more than twice that of titanium steel necklaces.
