Jewelry OEM punching and inlaying techniques
When making jewelry, in addition to the influence of shape, cutting, and grinding, the punching and inlaying of jewelry are also very important. Most pendants, earrings, and bracelets that are commonly seen require drilling and inlaying, and the position, size, and quality of the drilling can affect the quality of the jewelry. So what kind of tools are needed for manual drilling? Today, the editor will bring you a tutorial on jewelry drilling. Friends who like it, come and take a look!
The most important rule of drilling is to confirm that the borehole is at the location you want to drill. It’s not as simple as it sounds. Before you begin the operation, you need to spend some time considering the location of the borehole.
Firstly, mark the drilling location.
Before starting drilling, it is best to mark the location. Use a spring-loaded center punch to make a small mark, or use a marker to draw a point to be drilled, and choose one based on the size to be drilled and the thickness of the metal.
When using a marker, place it steadily on the metal with your hand and quickly move it left and right. If using a center drilling machine, the drilling workpiece needs to be placed on a flat metal, and then the center drilling machine should be placed on the workpiece and pushed down steadily. The central punching machine has a strong impact force, so there will always be some metal shavings generated around it. But if the borehole is large, it’s not important anymore.
Secondly, the drilling techniques of the drilling machine.
When drilling, the workpiece must be tightly pressed. If it moves, it will rotate rapidly with the drill bit. The drilling location is another major consideration. Drilling a large area of uncut metal is much easier than drilling a precise hole in a small, neatly cut workpiece. If a hole in the center position is needed, it is usually easier to operate by cutting the shape around the hole. Generally speaking, workpieces on the workbench should be held in hand. However, the metal used for handheld cranes or electronic drilling can become very hot during the drilling process. In this case, the application can clamp the workpiece with a piece of wood or keep the drill bit cool by placing it in oil or water during operation. If you want to drill a large hole, you can first drill a small hole and then gradually enlarge it, which makes the operation easier.
Thirdly, drilling tools.
1、 Bow drills with thin ropes are suitable for tension;
2、 There are four different clamp heads for handheld drills.
Jewelry surface drilling technique.
Try not to drill directly on the curved surface, as the drill bit cannot be held tightly and may slide around or even break during operation. In general, file a small plane at the top of the surface, mark the drilling position with a pencil, and then use a marker to make a stable drilling mark.
Making small drill bits
Some small drills can be made with sewing needles. Use a flat mouthed pliers to clamp the pinhole position at the end of the needle, break its end, and then use a tiger pliers to clamp it at 1/3 of the sewing needle. Break one end on an oiled diamond grinding stone, and make a wedge shape of about 45 degrees on the other end. Gently eliminate the diagonals on both sides and grind it into a double wedge shape. This method is very useful and sturdy for making small drill bits, but they are not suitable for drilling metals thicker than 1mm (1/32in).
